Hello my fellow crocheters!
Today we’re talking about something very close to my yarn-covered heart:
the cozy crochet corner — but not the Pinterest-perfect, influencer-approved, everything-matching aesthetic you see online.
Nope.
We’re talking about the real cozy corner — the one filled with cat hair, yarn crumbs, questionable snacks, and vibes. 😄💛
Influencers Are Everywhere… Even in the Fridge 😭📱
Let’s be honest.
We live in a world where influencers appear everywhere:
Open Instagram → Influencer
Open Pinterest → Aesthetic life you definitely don’t have
Open your fridge → Wouldn’t be surprised if one popped out with a discount code

Pinterest and Instagram show this glossy, curated version of reality.
But behind the scenes?
- their house is messy
- they have bad days
- their cat also steals their yarn
- they hide chaos just outside the camera frame
The problem is that beginners start thinking:
👉 “I need a perfect crochet corner before I can create anything beautiful.”
And let me lovingly shout:
💥 NO YOU DON’T. 💥

And what I have
Your Crochet Corner Should Feel Good — Not LOOK Good 📍🧶✨
I used to believe I needed:
- a perfect chair
- a perfect blanket
- a perfect shelf
- perfect lighting
- perfect storage
- basically a perfect life
But nope.
Here’s the real truth:
🧡 If your chair looks gorgeous but hurts your back → NOT cozy
🧡 If your chair is ugly but comfy → That’s your throne
🧡 If you sit on the floor like a happy gremlin → Valid
🧡 If your bed is your crochet island → Also valid
Your cozy crochet corner is wherever your body and your brain say:
✔️ “Yes, I can sit here for an hour.”
✔️ “Yes, I feel comfortable.”
✔️ “Yes, this feels like my space.”
Pinterest does NOT get to decide that.
Instagram does NOT get to decide that.
Your butt decides that. 🪑😄
Let’s Talk Tools: You Don’t Need Fancy Stuff ✂️🧵
Everywhere online you see:
✨ “Top 10 crochet must-haves!”
✨ “You NEED this ergonomic hook!”
✨ “This tool will change your life!”
✨ “Buy this full set or you’re not a real crocheter!”
But here’s a secret:
You only need the basics.
Really.
Real-life example:
About ten years ago, on a rainy vacation, I bought a simple plastic-handled crochet hook because I forgot mine.
No branding.
No ergonomic curves.
No influencer recommendations.
Just a hook.
And guess what?
It is STILL my favourite hook.
My ride-or-die 5mm buddy.
My soulmate tool. 😂🧶
So don’t stress about fancy materials.
Your perfect tools find YOU — not the other way around.
You Don’t Need the Full Arsenal as a Beginner 🧰😄
If you are just starting out:
❌ Don’t buy 15 hook sizes
❌ Don’t buy ergonomic sets immediately
❌ Don’t buy expensive yarn
❌ Don’t buy all the gadgets
Because:
- You don’t yet know if crochet is “the one.”
- You might get frustrated in the beginning.
- You don’t know what feels comfortable for you.
- You might waste money on things you don’t use.
Start small.
Learn the basics.
Figure out what you actually like.
Then grow. 🌱

As you see, i use items from Temu. Crochet hooks, normal plastic markers and my buttons instead of expensive row counters.
Cheap Yarn Is Perfect for Beginners 😄💛
For your early projects, buy yarn from:
- Action
- Pepco
- Teddy
- Dollar stores
- Lidl
- Grandma’s mysterious stash
Feel free to review my post about the yarns Where I Buy My Yarn & Accessories — Affordable Options I Truly Recommend
Because your first projects might end up a bit…
🤨 confused
😵 lopsided
🤣 artistically chaotic
And that’s okay!
Don’t traumatise yourself by destroying expensive yarn while learning how to not accidentally crochet a bowl instead of a hat. 😂
Later, when you feel more confident, THEN move to higher-quality yarns.
Your wallet will thank you.
Stitch Markers & Counters: The Reality 🎯😼
Do you need fancy stitch markers?
NO.
You can use:
- a piece of contrasting yarn
- a paperclip
- a safety pin
- a button
- literally anything within arm’s reach
I often use buttons as row counters:
If a project needs 10 rows, I line up 10 buttons and move them as I go.
Simple. Cheap. Effective.
Just be careful if you have a cat.
Because cats LOVE to push things off tables. 😼💥
Your Cozy Corner = Anywhere You Feel Happy ✨
You don’t need:
❌ a €5000 chair
❌ a matching blanket
❌ colour-sorted yarn walls
❌ aesthetic lighting
❌ an Instagram-worthy setup
You only need:
✨ your favourite chair (or bed or floor)
✨ the hook that feels best
✨ yarn that doesn’t make you cry
✨ a vibe
Any space where you feel safe, calm, and comfy —
THAT is your crochet corner.
With time, maybe you’ll upgrade it.
Or maybe not.
But your first successful toy will feel just as magical whether you made it on:

- a fancy couch
- a wooden chair from your grandma’s attic
- or the floor with a cup of tea and a cat on your lap
And don´t forget – plastic containers with lid 😀
